GEO: getting cited by AI answer engines, not just Google
Ananvix · May 12, 2026 · 5 min read
More buyers now ask an AI assistant before they ever open a list of blue links. If your content is not structured to be extracted and cited, you are invisible in that channel — no matter how well you rank traditionally.
What AI engines reward
- Clear, self-contained answers near the top of the page.
- Structured data (FAQPage, Product, Service) that machines can parse unambiguously.
- Concrete facts and numbers an engine can quote with confidence.
- Semantic HTML headings that map to the questions people actually ask.
A simple test
Take any page and ask: if a model had three seconds to summarize this, would it find a crisp answer? If the value is buried in marketing fluff, the answer is no — and so is your citation.
GEO and SEO are not rivals
The same fundamentals — fast pages, clean structure, real substance — serve both. GEO is not a new trick; it is classic information hygiene applied with AI consumers in mind.
